On April 3rd, 2010, the St. Johnsville Fire Department participated in the Adopt-A-Highway program. Firefighters cleaned up the shoulders of State Highway 5 from the village line to the Herkimer-Montgomery county line. Trash and debris was placed for New York State DOT to pick up at a later date.
